Mutter Paneer
Mutter paneer is a classic North Indian curry made with green peas and paneer (Indian cottage cheese). It features a rich and creamy base prepared with onions, tomatoes, cashews, and aromatic spices. This dish is simple, comforting, and perfect for everyday meals.
Ingredients
- Paneer: Soft cottage cheese made from milk
- Vegetables: Green peas, onion, tomatoes, green chilies
- Cashews: Adds creaminess to the gravy
- Spices: Cumin, turmeric, red chili powder, garam masala
- Herbs: Ginger, garlic, coriander leaves
Masala Paste Preparation
- Add onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, and cashews to a blender
- Add coriander leaves and green chilies
- Blend into a smooth paste (add water if needed)
Cooking Steps
- Heat 3 tbsp oil in a pan or pressure cooker
- Add cumin seeds and let them crackle
- Add the prepared masala paste and sauté for 10–12 minutes
- Add turmeric, chili powder, and garam masala
- Add green peas and mix well
- Pour 1–1.25 cups water and add salt
- Cook until peas are soft (2–3 whistles if using cooker)
- Add paneer cubes and simmer for a few minutes
Tip: Do not overcook paneer, or it may become hard.
Serving Suggestions
Serve hot with roti, naan, paratha, or steamed basmati rice. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves for extra flavor.
